1. Who we are

TheRun.gr is a running race directory for Greece, accessible at therun.gr. Protecting your personal data is important to us.

The data controller for this site is TheRun.gr. For anything concerning your personal data you can write to us directly at info@therun.gr.

2. What data we collect

We only collect data necessary for the operation of our service:

  • Race submission form: Race name, date, location, distances, website, and optionally the submitter's contact email.
  • Contact form: Name, email, subject and message.
  • Newsletter sign-up: If you use the sign-up form on the home page, we store your email address and the language of the page, send you a welcome email, and then one email a month with the new races. Every email has an unsubscribe link. After you unsubscribe we keep the address marked as unsubscribed, only so that we do not email you again; if you want it deleted entirely, ask us at any time. We ask for nothing else.
  • Analytics data: Anonymous usage data via Vercel Analytics (country, pages visited, device).
  • Race interaction counts: When a race page is viewed, or a race is opened from a list, or a registration link, share button or calendar button is used, we record which race, which type of action, the type of page it came from, and a timestamp. No identifier, IP address, cookie or session data is stored, so these counts cannot be linked to you or to each other — they are totals only, and we cannot tell whether two actions came from the same person.

3. Purpose of processing

Data is used exclusively for:

  • Managing and publishing running races on the platform.
  • Responding to messages sent via the contact form.
  • Sending the monthly new-races email to people who signed up for it.
  • Improving the website user experience.

4. Data security

Data is stored on secure servers via Supabase with encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). We implement database-level security policies (Row Level Security) to restrict access.

5. Cookies

This site sets no tracking cookies. Your answer to the banner shown on your first visit is stored locally in your browser (localStorage) so that we do not ask again; it is not sent anywhere.

The Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights scripts load only if you choose “Accept”. If you choose “Decline”, or do not answer at all, they are not loaded.

The race interaction counts described in section 2 work regardless of that choice, because they store no cookie, identifier or IP address — there is nothing to link back to you.

6. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. The data we store lives with Supabase and Vercel, our database and hosting providers.

The emails we send — the receipt when you submit a race, and the welcome email and monthly updates if you sign up — go out through Zoho Mail (Zoho Corporation, servers in the European Union), which processes your address for those sends only. Submitting a race does not add you to a mailing list.

In addition, some parts of our pages load directly from third parties, which see your IP address as they would on any website visit: Open-Meteo (weather forecast for the race location), OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap and Esri (map tiles), Amazon S3 (elevation data for the 3D route view) and Unsplash (images). We send them none of your personal details.

7. Your rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of your data.
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your data.
  • Objection: Object to the processing of your data.
  • Complaint: File a complaint with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (www.dpa.gr).
